Nourish Organic Bodycare

Nourish Organic Skincare Review: Organic food for Healthy Skin

This line not only has super-cute packaging with little pictures of figs and lavender flowers, it’s based out of my family’s teeny tiny hometown in Pennsylvania. Cool? Hopefully I can visit the factory where they make all these beautiful, and great smelling beauty items one day. I received the Lavender/Mint handsoap, which is not only silky and doesn’t dry your hands out, but is naturally antibacterial, free of harmful ingredients and smells AAAAAAAmazing! I literally wash my hands MORE often because I know I will smell amazing each time I do.  Free of sulfates? Yes please. Sulfate soaps make my hands so dry and hurt, this doesn’t do that to me (also doesn’t contain any sulfates) so glad to have found my hand soap soul-mate!

I also got ahold of the Lavender/Mint Body Butter. O.M.G. The smell is the same as the handsoap, amazing, clean and pure. The benefits of the butter far exceed the soap , however. It is deeply moisturizing, and easily melts with warmth from the skin. It can easily melt in the jar, so be sure to keep it stored in a dry and cool place. I find that natural products last longer and don’t spoil as fast in the refrigerator, much like food! Not rocket science here!

Some of the ingredients they use, just to name a few commonly found in their products are as follows:

Acai berry( antioxidant rich, anti-aging),

Aloe (hydrating, healing),

Coconut (deeply hydrating,anti-aging, anti microbial),

Green tea (antioxidant rich, redness reducing)

EAT MORE KALE?!

emktshirt

WTH is “EAT MORE KALE”?! and why do I keep seeing it everywhere? Bumpers, T-Shirts….hoodies…
Well, I have started to see these things too. More often when I was at a local Organic market. I’d see a car backing out with a bumber sticker reading “eat more kale”. I became curious after this happening a few times. I actually spoke to Bo-Muller Moore (Owner) in an e-mail. Pretty cool dude! He seems very laid back and calm as a cucumber..errr Kale! Haha!
Here, on his site, he explains Eat More Kale:
http://www.eatmorekale.com
“I’m asked all the time, “Hey Bo, what do you mean by ‘Eat More Kale’ and where did the phrase come from?” Well, it means a lot of things to a lot of people.

A couple of friends of mine, Paul and Kate of High-Ledge Farm, penned the phrase over ten years ago when they special ordered two shirts for themselves. I must admit, I gave the design very little thought. I drew the letters and cut the stencil in less than 20 minutes. I printed their shirts and delivered them at the next farmer’s market. The idea became “viral” before people knew what “viral” was, then quickly spread to all corners of the world. Now, as a one man show, it’s everything I can do to keep up with the demand.

Most obviously, it’s about eating healthier. Kale can be delicious and a SUPER FOOD! You *should* eat more of it. An ancient ancestor of the cabbage plant, kale is primarily a cold-weather crop with a taste not unlike collard greens. It grows in a lot of conditions and climates that are inhospitable to other vegetables and can get tastier with a hard freeze.

Eat More Kale is about supporting small business, business that actually cares and hasn’t been swallowed up by the profit-hungry, corporate mentality. For years I was a one man show, so my shirts are distinctive, offbeat, one-of-a-kind works of art. I’m happy now to actually employ a handful of local friends to help me keep up with my expanding micro-business. That said, I have no giant call-centers to hide behind and I don’t need them. I am one man, with some good friends who are also handy with squeegees and that’s how I like it. When you see someone wearing one of my t-shirts you will instantly recognize it’s personal style, character and the care we took to craft it.

Eat More Kale is also about being part of a worldwide movement, a t-shirt revolution. My customers hail from all around the globe and I really dig that. When you buy a shirt from me I’d sure appreciate if you sent a picture of you wearing it somewhere so I can add it to my wall. If you want to check out my collection of photos you can see them here.

I’m also about eating locally, supporting local farmers, bakers, famers markets, farm stands, CSA’s, community gardens and restaurants, sustainable lifestyles, social commentary and community. Most importantly, I’m about printin’ Vermont’s one-at-a-time original design t-shirts. Have fun and remember: eat more kale!!!”

Beauty From the Earth Cosmetics: The “MAC” of natural makeup

bfteshadows

BFTE: BEAUTY FROM THE EARTH COSMETICS REVIEW

I call BFTE the “MAC” of the natural/mineral lines. It’s bold and creative color selection gives the client a truly customizable experience. A lot of gals flock to mineral makeup for the natural look, the effortless beauty. However, there are some who want to simply switch from harmful chemicals but still keep their dramatic and inspired looks. A lot of big makeup companies are using bright and bold eye looks to draw in customers, BFTE doesn’t seem to have a need to do this, they have such a variety that it simply attracts a lot of attention from a lot of different types of women. I was drawn to it because it was a natural line, though I know some are drawn to it because they can still do a high drama look, minus all the scary ingredient labels. Most of the makeup from this line contain only 3-5 ingredients, if that. Truly amazing!

I first tried the Foundation. It was actually fairly sheer for my taste (I am a full coverage kinda gal) but when I layered it and it blended nicely and gave me a more medium coverage without a lot of effort. I also liked the large variety in shades. Ultimately I discovered I really like using the lightest foundation as my highlighter and it stays all day, even for oily skin types! My favorite part is that it’s much cheaper than a jar of Bare Minerals too.

Faith and Foxy. These two loose mineral shadows are truly beautiful. I am so glad I experienced these in my lifetime, as they are truly gorgeous. “Faith” has a nice pinky glow, it could be used on the cheeks or the eyes. It reminded me of Springtime! “Foxy” is a deeper color with a browner base, somewhat purple, with a little glow in it too. Paired together these are beautiful for a contoured eye look or an evening out. Separately, they are both great for the daytime! I didn’t even find a need for eye-primer with these. As with most mineral shadows, the color output was truly amazing and effortless. I wanted to play with so many looks after just one use.

I had an amazing experience with this company, the owner is very helpful and quick to reply to your questions. I would definitely recommend them.

Get your “beauty from the earth”, and feel good about what your putting on!

Vapour Beauty Review: Featured in ALLURE magazine!

vapour

Vapour beauty: Organic Beauty Review

I actually came across Vapour Beauty through Allure Magazine. They have won some of the “best of beauty” awards. I was lucky enough to be able to try out some of their products recently.

First I tried out the “stratus soft focus instant skin perfector” which is a fairly large amount for something you only need a pea size of. They describe the product here: “Vapour raises the bar for performance and purity with Stratus Soft Focus, velvety variation of Vapour’s revolutionary original organic BB Cream; a 3–in–1 moisturizer, primer and no-color foundation. Soft Focus balances all skin types, including combination and oily skin. Soft Focus leaves a smooth base for color makeup application while achieving a natural soft satin finish.

Vapour’s Light Reflective Technology immediately perfects the appearance of your skin— you immediately appear younger and refreshed. For a flawless finish use Stratus Instant Skin Perfector alone or under any Atmosphere Foundation.

In an independent study 8 out of 10 people who tried Stratus saw an immediate improvement in their skin tone and texture. Seven out of 10 people saw an immediate decrease in the appearance of lines, wrinkles and pores.

Made with 70% Certified Organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments & vitamins. Stratus nourishes skin with Organic Pumpkin and Papaya complex, essential fatty acid rich Organic Evening Primrose, essential amino acid Lysine and skin supportive silica. Stratus is infused with Vapour’s face specific infusion of anti-inflammatory Frankincense, antioxidant Tulsi and moisturizing Lotus flowers.

All the performance of a luxury moisturizer and primer with none of the silicone or chemicals!”

My favorite part is that it’s silicone free. Ofcourse, I am also grateful that isn’t riddled with harmful ingredients, but I have oily skin and silicone makes it so much worse!

I felt like it helped my makeup go on easier, stay longer and evened out my texture better. It didn’t really even out my skin tone, but as for all the other benefits I give it two thumbs way up! It made my skin glowy too!

Lastly, I had the pleasure of trying the “illusionist concealer”, which I personally really liked. First of all, it’s very silky. Though it doesn’t provide a lot of coverage, it’s great at medium coverage, under eye concealing, and hiding redness without feeling heavy and cakey. It lasted me awhile, even under my eyes, which is very rare. I also found it helpful for making my powder wear longer in the day. If you suffer from skin issues and need full coverage, this isn’t the concealer for you, as you will most likely want a full coverage makeup. This particular concealer is for the health conscious girl, who wants a more natural makeup, with amazing ingredients, and is for a combination/oily to normal/dry skin type. It is also helpful for light hyperpigmentation and age spots that are starting to appear.

I liked the feeling of being worry free while applying my Vapour Beauty products. Too often I am finding myself trying to hurry to get ready and still having to skim the ingredients label. I really enjoyed these products and would highly recommend Vapour Beauty, just like ALLURE MAGAZINE does!

Mermaid Minerals Beauty!

MERMAID MINERALS: Beauty choices for the conscious

I REALLY enjoyed receiving all of my treasures from Mermaid Minerals. I quickly opened the box to find a cute, little, red tote bag with a mermaid on the front, filled with my beauty booty! I first tried the Body Lotion, it was in a spray bottle, which claims to absorb and hydrate quickly. I, being a person of very oily origins, do not particularly care for lotion. This I liked. It wasn’t greasy and did as promised. It definitely delivered. It absorbed very fast, this would be a great hydrating lotion for the summertime for oily skinned gals such as myself! I couldn’t get the pump to work on the sprayer, but I don’t use spray bottles much anyway. I like this a lot and would like to see it in a squeeze bottle perhaps.

(UPDATE!..well, i didn’t read the directions, you are supposed to SHAKE it before spraying, it works great and it sprays now! I even PREFER the spray pump. I am weird, right?)

The next item in my tote that caught my eye was the mascara. Now, I must explain myself, I am an AVID mascara user/buyer. I LOVE mascara! A lot of girls really love the Maybelline “Great Lash” from way back when. It’s a MUA fave too! It gives blackness to the lashes, length and no clumping. That’s EXACTLY like this Mermaid Minerals Mascara, EXCEPT the MM version is more natural and has a lot less harmful ingredients! Win, win!

The Mineral Shadow looked amazing, the color I received was “mermaid” and it’s simply gorgeous and so reminds me of the sea. The subtle shimmer, and staying power makes this amazing for anytime and anyplace, as well as any season. I have always loved mineral shadows because of the color output. Even without a primer, these shadows are nothing short of amazingly beautiful, you will truly feel like a sea goddess! Right now I see that there full sized shadow pots of loose mineral shadows are on SALE for only $4.00 each!!!!!!!! WHAT A STEAL!!!!

I had a great experience with this company and it’s owner and am really glad to be a part of spreading the word about Mermaid Minerals!

Join Patty on her site and be sure to mention I sent you!

Eminence Organic Skincare

Eminence: Handmade Organic skincare of Hungary Review
I have always been dying to try Eminence. I have seen it in Spas, in Magazines, heard about it, read about it. I have heard it’s amazing and all-natural. I am honored to have the opportunity to test out some products and write down my thoughts on them. This company has a lot of amazing press, and though you feel like you haven’t heard of them, you will see them everywhere now!
Eminence offers products from makeup, to skincare to herbal teas, all organic, all amazing. I had the pleasure of trying out some of the skincare recently.
The Cornflower Recovery Serum was the first thing my Mother and I tried. I happened to be visiting and she was excited to try it when I read the description and she saw the beautiful glass bottle. My favorite part had to be the smell, apparently I am a big fan of clary-sage and seabuckthorn! The smell is amazing and a lot of smells make my eyes itch or water, I was actually able to put this ON my eyes (well lids and under eye) without them being reactive at all. I also have very oily skin and I felt like this was very absorbent, hydrating and not greasy at all. Although, I know I am partial, I wanted so badly to love it because of the smell anyway 😉
My mom however has drier more mature skin that is sensitive. She said she is really enjoying the serum and continues to use it daily. She said it reminds her of the Origins Dr.Weil Plantidote serum that she used to love, but the Eminence serum contains no harmful ingredients to speak of and is also Organic! She feels it is hydrating as well, and says it feels silky and has a very pleasant texture without the greasiness. She feels that she is doing something great for her skin while using it.
I also tried the Evening Primrose and Melon Balancing Masque. I used this for about 2 weeks so far about 3 times a week. It really helps to make the skin feel a lot plumper, hydrated, and to speed cell turnover so that the age and post acne spots disappear a lot faster. My skin looked more even after the first use!
I also sampled some of the tinted moisturizer and it had a great consistency and non-greasy feel. It lasted awhile, even for someone who has very oily skin! This would definitely be a great tinted moisturizer for the summertime since it’s not very heavy.
I HIGHLY recommend this line to anyone, any skin type or age. It is extremely natural, Organic and very well put together. You can always go here to check them out: http://us.eminenceorganics.com/

How to get the JUNK out your Trunk: Detox for Dummies

detoxblopic

First, why are you detoxing? Weight loss, to balance out from previous medications or antibiotics, to begin a healthy lifestyle? Whatever the reason, you need to know a few things before you start:
1) Cleansing can be scary. You may use the bathroom a lot, and it may or may not be pretty. Wait. It will ALWAYS not be pretty, but it will sometimes scare you at what comes out. No need to fret at loose stools or frequent BR breaks, it’s all part of the process. However, if you feel terrified and things aren’t at all normal and you see blood or are dehydrated you need to see your doctor. I am not trying to scare you, but venturing into new healthy ways means doing some spring cleaning of your colon and skin. The side effects can be less than desirable at first. I always recommend doing a gentle detox, to cleanse the system slowly a little everyday so that the side effects are not as harsh or scary. It may take longer, but it is certainly worth it.
2) The skin needs to be detoxed as well!
3) If you lose weight and do not start changing your eating habits for the better once your detox is over, well, you will gain it right back!
4) If you are diabetic or in very poor or fragile health you need to check with a doctor or naturopath before starting all this
5) Be sure you are financially and mentally as well as emotionally prepared to do this, and that the people around you are supportive or at least won’t try lead you astray.

NOW that we have all of that out of the way, let’s get on it!

First thing when you wake up, drink a glass of water. Filtered water. Good water. FIRST THING! Then as you get moving, grab some warm water (filtered) with lemon, add honey if you must (make sure it’s raw).

Bentonite clay is great for absorbing toxins, you can usually get this at the health food store, the reason I enjoy this is because it’s also amazing as a mud mask on the skin or in the bath to draw out more toxins. It’s great for acne and large pores and oily skin. Be sure to get the right kind as ask for assistance at the store before eating clay! You want the food grade kind!

Dandelion tea is great to sip on throughout the day, it is extremely detoxing and cleansing for skin and body.

My favorite gentle detox routine is to use bentonite clay all over from head to toe mixed with water, let it dry and soak up all of the toxins. Run a really warm, almost hot bath with Epsom salts, and sip detoxing tea while in the tub. I also burn candles and have very soothing music playing.
This may be too much for you right now, maybe just the tea with a warm bath is right for you right now. Also bear in mind you will sweat, so keep water on hand so that you don’t get dizzy.

Eating clean, unprocessed foods and limiting sugars will also help speed the process of detox along much faster. If you keep dumping toxins into the body you won’t fully detox, so plan on changing things up when you begin your detox/cleanse.
Best of luck to you, and remember to listen to your body and be gentle with yourself!

*detoxing can take up to a week to 10 days depending on how clean your diet and environment are
